Okay, so I know I didn’t actually go to Verona when Romeo and Juliet was set but hay ho!
So if you have read my previous posts you will know that I was luckily enough to be able to go for a long weekend away in Rome and it was so amazing. Better than I thought actually. It was more beautiful, romantic and warm that I was expecting. When I say warm, I mean it was boiling! Although this just made everything look more beautiful and the authentic gelato more delicious! I thought I would share with you some of my trip away now and them some more at a later date.
On the first day of our arrival, I was up at 7am, just like a small child on christmas morning, full of excitement, this is still acceptable at 22 right? Anyway I was up, checking the weather, planning my perfect outfit for the days marathon trek of exploring ahead and it was just that, a trek. I think we walked about 15 miles a day, each mile as amazing as the next! I opted for a black, simple, midi dress with a higher neck than I would normal go for. I paired this with my tan back pack and tan sandals, not ideal for dusty cobbled streets but that is fine with me! We straight away made our way down to the colosseum. We turned the corner after following the map the whole way and could see it, in all its glory, from miles away. My jaw dropped at the scale of the ancient building. How they made a building this incredible in the age they did is beyond me as it is absolutely incredible.
We then entered inside the colosseum after some queuing, where again, jaw dropping. It is bigger than I ever imagined and it really fills your imagination of the lions and gladiators that once fought there, along with the 50 thousand spectators that would come to watch the events.
We then proceeded out once exploring every level of the colosseum, each presenting it’s own story and history, on to a beautiful, quaint pizzeria surrounded by leaves, trees and fairy lights. Perfect for a romantic weekend and for eating delicious food! Of corse, my first meal being pizza, which was divine! I am dribbling even thinking about it, okay I’m not really but I could do! Here are some of my photos from the first day and I hope you look forward to hearing and seeing more of my trip in the days to come!
