Today I really fancied some doughnuts so I thought I would give it a go at making my own! These have turned out between a mixture of churros and doughnuts as they were actually harder to make than I originally expected.
You will need:
For the mixture:-
250g Plain Flour
1 tsp Vanilla extract
1 tsp Baking powder
1 ltr Vegetable oil
few small chunks of bread
For the sauce:-
200g Dark chocolate
100ml Double cream
2 table spoon Golden syrup.
First thing you will need to do is boil the water and mix into jug along with the melted butter and vanilla extract.
In a second bowl sieve the flour and baking powder into a bowl making a well in the centre. Pour the liquid mixture into the centre of the flower and baking powder and mix together. Keep mixing this until there is no lumps left.
Once this is mixed together put to one side to cool for about 10 minutes.
While this is cooling you can start to make the sauce. To do this you need to put break the chocolate into small pieces then put into a saucepan. You then add the milk, cream and golden syrup in and stir together. This will all melt together and make a smooth sweet sauce.
While the sauce is cooking put the oil into a separate saucepan and leave to get hot. To test the oil is hot enough put a small chunk of bread into the oil, if it goes golden brown within 45 seconds to a minute it will then be ready to pipe the mixture into the oil and cook. Pipe the mixture into the oil into a line about 10 cm long (this is easier said than done). Once these are a golden colour remove from the oil and place onto a plate with kitchen paper on to cool.
Once this is done you can put the doughnuts into a sugar and cinnamon mix and cover them completely.
Mine don’t look perfect but they tasted delicious!
