Top 7 tips on surviving Trek America

Venturing out into the big wide world for the first time is daunting. I’m not going to say it might be, because there is no ‘might be’ about it, it is. Anyone that says otherwise is a liar, without meaning to sound too harsh. When I went on my first Trek America trip I had all the what I’m assuming is normal thoughts of going it alone in such a vast, yet incredible country. This is my top tips on how to survive Trek America and make it the best trip OF.YOUR.LIFE.

1. Be open minded
Yep, sounds like an obvious one right? Your going to be meeting up with a group of people you have never met and going to be spending a lot of time with them and I mean, A LOT of time with them and sometimes (most of the time) in a very small space. These people aren’t going to be who you ‘usually’ socialise with and they’re not going to look like/act or even talk how your used to. Is this a bad thing? No, infact this is the best thing about Trek America, the people. These people are all in the same boat as you because lets not forget, your strange to them too! Accept everyone for who they are because if you can do that, you can concur the world and it’s going to be brilliant! Food for thought – Good time to learn some foreign phrases and words?

2. Your going to be tired
The trip I went on, Western 2, is involving a lot of camping. This is therefore not going to provide the best night sleep ever but you do get used to it! You will survive! Being tired sucks, but it is all part of the experience! There is also going to be a lot of early morning where you have to pack away the campsite super early and get on the road again. Alarms are going to be going off left right and centre. It is worth it, trust me. Those early morning are going to take you to the next destination of your trip and there is no doubt in my mind, that 5:30am alarm is going to sound like a good thing by the end of the trip!

14642292_10154337385693891_3244172900531588161_n3. Tents
Yep, like my last point, your going to be sleeping in tents. Now you might be an expert camper and you might know your stuff, which is great, but the majority of us don’t. LISTEN TO YOUR LEADER regarding how to put up your tent. Your going to be doing it a lot. You think your listening the first time but really, chances are, your not. Your thinking ‘I can’t believe I’m going to be sleeping in a tent with someone who I have only just met’ or ‘OMG I’m putting up a tent’. Yep simple things, but really, it will benefit you to listen because when it comes to the next 27 gazillion times of putting it up and down it will help to know your stuff!

4. Food
I personally, am the fussiest person ever and also a vegetarian so one of my worries when going was what was I going to eat? You do not need to worry! I was in a group of amazing people who really thought about what I was going to eat as well as themselves and the chances are, you will be too! Don’t be afraid to say if you don’t like something and also don’t be afraid to try new things (this is rich coming from me but honestly, it really will be fine). Maybe even make a suggestion of a meal you like and volunteer to make it for the group!

img_35015. The cold
This is obviously weather dependent and also trip dependent. My trip started on the 2nd October and was 15 days around California. California and cold in the same paragraph I hear you say? Yes, that is correct. Camping in the Grand Canyon was possibly the coldest night I have experience ever, ever, ever! Be prepared for all weather. Take that extra fluffy pair of socks, take that extra jumper, even chuck in a hat! If the Trek America team recommend to take it, TAKE IT. Or if you don’t there is always going to be a stop at a K-Mart and you can purchase that extra blanket there!

6. The Van
Your going to be spending a lot of time in the van travelling from one place to the next and when a 10 hour drive doesn’t sound that long when you read it, it really is. Prepare a playlist! The Leader will most probably have an aux lead in the van so you can be the DJ for the day! Just make sure it’s music you think the whole group will like not just yourself.

7. Experience
Be ready to experience thing you have never experienced before! I sound like a new block buster movie right there, but seriously. The Trek America trips are arranged so that you can see the most amazing parts of America and you really are going to so I’m warning you, life is never going to be the same again. Your going to see the most beautiful landmarks, your going to have the hardest, stomach hurting laughs and your going to meet the most incredible people! Would I recommend a Trek America trip? YES! Even if your slightly thinking about it, just do it. I can promise you if your trip is anything like mine, you are not going to regret it and hey, you never know, you might get the chance to get married in Vegas!

Why travelling has saved my life

Okay, saved my life is a teeny bit dramatic I admit, in reality it has made my life.

Society cements into our minds about what life is meant to be like and how the correct path should go which, for years, I’ve been right on track to success, should I have continued to follow this. But I took the plunge and by far this is the best thing I’ve ever done.

Small, blonde and pathetic I decided that I was going to step into the world of solo travelling. Some people may say brave, others say stupid but I don’t care either way. Adventure is something I’ve always been into, wether that be exploring or getting into trouble, count me in and as the saying goes, the world is your oyster.

From hiking the Grand Canyon and watching the sunset to watching new friends making fools of themselves learning how to climb coconut trees, this is what I live for now. I have no place I can call home, although I will still refer to the place my parents live as home, I’m not sure I fit in there any more. Of corse, there have been hard days, days I’ve felt heartbroken and days I’ve missed ‘the norm’ but it’s also hard to imagine living like that on a daily basis again at home when I can live in paradise. I like the having to find somewhere to go next and the meeting new people, my god have I met so many people along the way, people who I would never have spoken to before and that have opened my eyes to a whole different perspective which I now completely cherish. People I have known for 3 days and cried about leaving (yes, that’s true) as well as people I couldn’t wait to leave!

I don’t know what I want to do with my life now, but I know I want to make a difference and I want to see and experience as much as I physically can.  I want to go and live, not just exist. This may not be for everyone which is fine, but this is for me. You cannot be happy in life unless your happy in yourself and I can say, hand on heart, I am the happiest I’ve ever been and I cannot wait for my next adventure to start!

An evening with Farfetch

When I get invited to blogging events I will do anything I can to get there so when I got asked if I wanted to attend the latest Farfetch event at the London school of make up I could.not.wait. I mean, this was quite far away from my home and it was on a school night (I say school, I don’t go to school but I think I will forever call a weeknight a school night) anyway, it was so worth the travel!

unspecified-2The reason behind this event I hear you ask? Well Farfetch have recently started selling beauty products on their site and this leads to their first beauty event talking about the latest and upcoming make up trends, featuring looks ranging from the ‘no make up, make up’ to the Watermelon inspired look! YES you heard me correctly, Watermelon! Surprisingly it looks amazing! unspecified

Trying and testing some of the product they sell on Farfetch along with seeing them being used by professionals was something else, my favourite was the no make up make up which I love in the summer and even watching the skin care made me want to fall asleep it looked so relaxing!
This even was incredible and I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to go to this. If you ever get the chance to go to ANYTHING, don’t turn it down as it is so worth it, meeting the amazing members of the Farfetch team, who I have exchanged numerous emails with or the other inspiring bloggers that I love to get chatting to and get inspired by.
Why not head over and have a look at Farfetch website and see what they have to offer and keep your eyes peeled for some more blog posts to come with more details about my evening!

To brow or not to brow?! Ft Benefit

The answer is always, to brow. No doubt about it and if your not on this brow game now, where have you been?

Benefit have just upped the brow game with the launch of their new eyebrow range of products, from brow conditioning primers to highlighters they have it all and my god it is something else.
Whilst in Mexico (have I mentioned I went to Mexico yet on my blog, oh yes just a few 1000 times) I made a very important stop into the Cancun Sephora and managed to pick myself up a beautiful little tin of brow goodies. This is not actually released in the UK until September so I felt super lucky to have been able to get my hands on this!

IMG_4472.JPGSO, what did I get? Firstly, the eyebrow conditioning primer. This product is something I don’t think the industry has much of yet. This is perfect for people like me who’s brows really aren’t all that without some TLC and this provides just that! Apply it over the brow, needing the smaller bit of product, this helps the brows to be more conditioned and help them to grow. This also helps product to last longer and stay in put meaning your look amazing all day long!

Next, once the primer is dry I can get out my measuring tool, yet you heard me right, measuring tool. This is to make sure your brows are in the right place on your face because no one wants one brow higher than the other or wonky arches so they! Line this up with the base of your nose and your ready to go.

IMG_4471.JPGThen it contained the goof proof pencil. This is fabulous, it is a pencil and a brush, Benefit have really thought of it all. Smooth out your brow hair in the direction you want it to go and using the measure, make a mark at the edge, arch and centre as a starting mark and then continue to use the pencil to gently fill in the centre of the brow joining the dots together, basically dot to dot on your face? Fun right!

Last but by no means least, the highlighter. This brilliant little pencil of amazingness finishes the brows to a T. Draw a slight line under the brow, on top of the eyelid and then blend in to make the eyebrows look more defined and give your face that little bit of jazz that  it deserves!  After all, if you have gone to this much effort to get the perfect brow you want to highlight your art work right?!
If you have been reading my blog for a while you will know I am a massive fan of Elizabeth Arden brow palette but this has upped the game massively. Bravo benefit!!

Cleansing bar by First Aid Beauty

Is is a soap? OHHHH NO it is First Aid Beauties latest cleansing bar which I was lucky enough to get my hands on  in my last trip to Sephora in Mexico! (Yes I know, how sad am I going to Sephora whilst on holiday in such an amazing country but all English girls would be the same and jump at the chance!) Anyway, the cleansing bar.

I have never tried any of First Aid beauty products before and anyone that knows me well knows that I am a teeny tiny bit obsessed with everything skin care, I actually think I would rather spend more on skin care than anything else.

This range was standing all pretty with bright lights around it, screaming at me to come and get it basically, so that is exactly what I did and I am so glad I did.

This bar can sit on the side of the bathroom, ready to be picked up at the easiest convenience. This bar smells quite natural, does that make sense? Quite fresh and clean, earthy but not too earthy? That is exactly what I think of when I see this product. Made with Oatmeal and Shea butter this cleansing bar is not only healthy for you skin but naturally good for it as well, which for me is massive. I am completely head over heals for this bar and I think it is going to last me a long, long time to come which is a massive added bonus!

Panasonic juicing

Last week I was lucky enough to have been sent the new Panasonic MJ-L500 juicer to try out and have a go myself at making some amazing juices they recommend. Being a vegetarian I already have a lot of fruit and vegetables in my diet but juicing is a great way to mix it up a bit and get some flavours together for on the go, along with being super healthy for you.
The Panasonic juicer is something I have never tried before, I have a blender but the concept of this item, to actually extract the juice from the fruit and vegetables is something I haven’t tried myself at home until now and I was pleasantly surprised at how simple and delicious this really was.

This juicer is also able to create frozen drinks as well as fresh which is amazing especially being summer it is great to be able to mix up a lovely frozen smoothy in the evening.

IMG_4458.JPGThe first juice I thought I would try was a Carrot, Orange, Pineapple mix. I also added some apple juice into this just to add a bit of sweetness. The juicer works really quickly to extract the juice even from the tougher items like the carrot, yet leaving the gorgeous tasting juice ready to drink immediately.

The next juice I tried was a more green juice. I though this would be good for times when I am feeling like I need a bit of a pick me up. I used Pear, Spinach and grapefruit, again adding a splash of orange juice as well. The Spinach really did its thing, making the juice a lovely green colour with the grapefruit adding some extra flavour into the mix.

Lastly I thought it a good idea to give the frozen fruit a try, so for this I mixed Watermelon, Blueberries and Raspberries. This by far has to be my favourite out of the three. The great thing about this juicer is that it doesn’t take away any of the flavour which I have found that blending sometimes does. I am not a fan of eating watermelon although I love the flavour so with this having it squeezed to make it a lovely frozen drink, it tasted delicious. IMG_4456
I was also sent a lovely book full of different juice ideas so I might do a juice detox in a few weeks and will keep you updated!

Asos obsession

Asos has forever been a favourite site of mine and I cannot be more grateful to my older cousins for introducing this site to me enough, as this is where my passion or fashion (Bratz dolls quote thrown in there) originally started.

This printed maxi is an absolute favourite of my 2016 summer wardrobe. I find it SO hard got find a maxi dress that fits me, especially as I am super short so this petite dress from Glamorous is perfect for me. Its tea dress style shoulders and plunge neck line makes this dress stand out from the crowd the perfect way.

Paired with a simple clutch and some lace up gladiator style sandals, I find myself falling more and more in love with the print and femininity this dress brings.

Pigment party

When it comes to pigment I am a teeny tiny bit obsessed with Macs range of colours they have and when I got my hands on this pink little beauty I was so excited!

IMG_4395Firstly I have used the Ultra HD foundation as  base all over my skin. I then then used the Nars creamy concealer in the shade Chantilly under my eyes and blended this in using a beauty blender. I have then used the Sephora Beauty amplifier, which is a pure white power and using a large brush I have applied this under my eyes, the centre of my chin and the centre of my forehead. I then take a fan brush and apply the Becca highlighter to the tops of my cheek bones bringing this up over my eyebrows.

I have then used the Benefit Stay don’t stray eyeshadow primer. I find that when using pigment it can easily leave a crease on the eyelid which is never okay so this primer is a god send in this situation! I firstly then take a light brown shadow from the Urban decay naked 2 palette and apply this into the crease of the eyelid an on to the outer corner mainly of the eye, I also use the shadow to shade in my eyebrows and give them a more defined look. I then take a separate brush and gently dab on the pigment into the centre of the eyelid. This can leave a sprinkle of glitter under the eye which I just brush away.
Next I apply a light silver shadow to the inner corner of the eye to make the centre pop. I apply a thin line of liquid eyeliner along the upper lid and bring this out to a gentle flick at the outer corner of the eye. I then apply the Eyelure 101 eyelashes which are quite natural, so there fore I apply the Benefit roller lash mascara on the top and bottom eyelashes in order to make them darker.

IMG_4408Finally, I apply the Mac bronzer just under my cheek bones to make the face look more defined and then to finish, I apply the NYX Matte lipgloss in the shade Stockholm to my lips. I chose this nude colour so that the main attention is to the pigment on the eyes which I am obsessed with!

I hope you like this look, please leave your comments below if you do as I love to hear about your thoughts.

Raspberry and White chocolate cookies

I lurrrvvveeee cookies and these are as delicious as they sound. Super easy to make and as lovely as a summers morning these cookies are perfect for all year round.

125g Caster Sugar
100g Soft Brown Sugar
100g Soft Butter
250g Self raising flour
1 tbsp Vanilla Essence
1 Large egg
1 Cup Raspberries
1/2 Cup of White chocolate chips

Firstly, mix the sugars together into a bowl and add the eggs and butter until they make a smooth paste. Then add the flour and vanilla essence and mix together until it makes a dough.

I then chop the raspberries into small pieces and add to the mix along with the chocolate chips. For this I have used frozen raspberries as I felt like they would cook better in the cookie.

I then heat the oven to 180 degrees and line two trays with grease proof paper. I then separate the dough and roll into small balls and place evenly onto a baking tray then into the oven. I put these into the oven for about 10 minutes until they are just golden on top, but they are still soft in the middle.

I then leave to cool and once they are cool I EAT. These are delicious and I hope you enjoy them as much as me!
